Goemon goes GBA - New Age Shutsudou screens
Jae Lurman 04/05/02

That crazy ninja Goemon is back again on the Gameboy Advance in the form of a new side-scrolling platform adventure - which should occasionally involve the first person mech shoot 'em up diversions and a whole load of mini games we've come to expect from the Mystical Ninja and company. These screenshots may show very little, but the game promises to make good use of the GBA's Mode 7 graphical effects. Goemon himself appears thinner and funkier than ever. Konami graced us westerners with Konami Krazy Racers so this game is more than likely to find a home in your collection soon. For now, enjoy the box art and screens.

APRIL 2002

Phantasy Star Collection @ E3
Jae Lurman 28/04/02

The Phantasy Star Collection (working title) page at the Nintendo website says it all : "This game has been announced. Please check back soon for more details."

Good news for fans of the series, RPG players and GBA owners in general - Phantasy Star Collection, to be published and released by the unstopable THQ in Q1 2003, has been officially announced by Sega recently. This may not be news to everyone, but what is news is that it WILL be unveiled at this years Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles May 22 - 24.

Further research on Sega's and THQ's official websites revealed no further information. The game is under tight wraps but full details of its release and exactly which games will come in the package should all be brought out in the open at E3 late next month - notably alongside Sega Smash Pack (see below), Super Monkey Ball and Crazy Taxi titles. It has been stated on IGNPocket.com that it may contain the first 3 installments of the series, which sounds almost too good to be true.

More GBA lovin' From Sega

Gearing up for a summer (May) 2002 release is Sega Smash Pack for the Gameboy Advance - featuring remakes of previous arcade and home Sega titles Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe and Sonic Spinball. Each game will remain faithful to their originals and some (if not all 3) may feature extra options. Of interesting note - the THQ has this to say about Golden Axe :

"Three game modes to choose from including Arcade Mode, Easy Mode, and Duel Mode"

Does this Duel Mode sound like a possible 2 player link-up battle mode to you? Very interesting. The information page on Nintendo's official website does say that the cartridge is "2 player simultaneously". More will be revealed next month at the E3 show in Los Angeles May 22 - 24. For now, feast your eyes on this awesome box art.
